TRAVEL TIPS

Emergencies

Most hotels have physicians on call. For emergencies, go to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, Delhi's premier private hospital, southeast of town, or ask at your hotel. From there you can call Meera Rescue if international evacuation is necessary; do not go to a government hospital. In a grave emergency, contact your embassy.

Although not equipped for trauma, the Max Medcentre—in conjunction with Harvard Medical International, one of India's major pharmaceutical companies—runs a first-rate clinic open daily from 8 am to 8 pm. Its hospital in Saket can treat complicated ailments and has many specialists. Many of the physicians are American-trained, and there's a 24-hour pharmacy on-site. The East–West Medical Centre is also a great resource for travelers, with ambulance service and regional evacuation, though it has no pharmacy.
